meltingICE exhibition

In connection with the film, the meltingICE-group created an exhibition and performance that premiered in Bømlo, hosted by Bømlo Kunstlag in February 2026.

Choreographer and butoh-dancer Margrete Slettebø performed to her own written text and to composer Christer Fredriksen’s improvised ICE-music.

I exhibited a couple of dozen images that I had created in the aftermath of our glacier-expedition. Most of the images were based on Nigardsbreen, though some were from a previous visit to Svalbard in 2013.

As part of building awareness, we were given a huge block of ice from Bremnes Seashore (around 1 ton) that was placed by the entrance to the culturehouse (transported by Kjell Birkenes Transport). On the opening day it was almost 35-cm of snow; the next day it started to rain. And after raining more or less non-stop for about ten days, almost all the ice was gone.
